could not connect...still

Postby dazeddog » Mon Mar 19, 2012 4:45 pm

Been several days now. I noticed with the most recent URL that is offered when I open Files Pro on my iTouch, that it does not connect to the server. I've tried using the local name, and also via Bonjour...but still nothing. Is it something I've done or is a server down? I'm desperate to get this rolling as I have many files I planned on uploading for work this week!!! :( I'm working on a new Macbook Pro.

Had this problem once before but it was resolved after one day. HELP!

Note that you can also transfer documents using iTunes File Sharing via USB. See here for instructions:
http://olivetoast.com/files/faq.shtml#connecting-usb

If the connection fails when you enter the Files URL into a web browser then there is probably a problem with your local Wi-Fi network set up. Has anything changed recently? e.g. you updated the Wi-Fi router settings or software; you added a new device to the network etc, etc. It's possible that simply switching the router off and on again my resolve the issue. You can also see some trouble-shooting tips here:

Hi John, Thanks for taking the time to reply. I've tried everything. It was working with the wifi recently and then I got a new, longer URL in my quick start bubble and it's never worked with that one. I was able to transfer through Dropbox, but much prefer the convenience of the other. I'm not sure what determines the assigned URL, but I hope to get a new one soon! :?

If you provide the URL we can check if it looks sane - and don't worry we (nor anyone else) can connect via this URL, even if it were valid.

You can contact by email via support @ this domain if you prefer.

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you...been traveling.

http://192.168.178.13 is consistently the URL that doesn't work. I get different ones at work..but haven't tried it there. I just know that when this new one came up, it has never worked.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I miss the convenience!

Cheers

No problem, hope you enjoyed your travels :-)

What is the IP address of your Macbook Pro? You can find this in System Preferences -> Network -> Wi-Fi. The first 3 sets of digits in the Macbook's IP address should match the first 3 digits in the Files Pro URL (i.e. 192.168.178). If not then the devices are not on the same local network and will not be able to connect.
