Prevent "Open in" in Safari?

Postby KellyMBI » Thu Aug 05, 2010 10:20 am

Hi,

I'm new to the Files lite application. I tested around and I am very satisfied with it's functionality so
I'm planing to buy the PRO version. One thing is there which gives me a problem.

Due to some device tests I'm installing iPhone Profiles from certain Web-Sites (using Safari).

Without installing Files lite the profile installation procedure comes up automatically. After
installing Files lite there's only the Button "Open in Files lite ...". In then I can see the content
of the profile (actually it's xml) - but I'm not able, to install this anymore.

Is there an configuration solution I missed?

This is a bug in Apple's software. The iOS should detect these configuration files and handle them itself, but instead they get passed off to 3rd party applications.

Unfortunately the document sharing system has to be hard coded into the application and can't be configured at runtime. We have filed a bug report with Apple about this issue and hopefully they'll provide a fix it in the next iOS update.

If you get in touch with us via email <support at this domain.com> we'll send you a build which may work-around the issue.

Hi,

I've just reported the same problem to your support team. This is really penalyzing for large companies using Exchange servers since synchronisation of iphones can't be automatically deployed anymore !

I personnaly don't think this is a bug in Apple's IOS 4.0.2 since it worked perfectly for me on my Ipod Touch 3G before installing Files Lite. Furthermore, a collegue running the same IOS on the same ipod without Files Lite gets no problem. And the biggest problem of all is that uninstalling Files Lite doesn't restore Safari's default behavior (which is to automatically open configuration profiles).

If you have a workaround, please think of me too ! :D

All,

I finaly found a workaround by uninstalling "Files Lite" PLUS another soft, "FileMap", that was trying to open configuration files. Once all files handlers uninstalled, I could install the configuration profile without any problem.

The good news is that Files' support team said they were to publish soon a new version solving the issue (about opening configuration files wheras it shouldn't) !

Just to confirm: this problem will be fixed in v1.7.1 of Files and Files lite. Both products are in review with Apple, so should be released very soon.
