do i have to manually connect files to my mac every time i want to transfer files?

Unfortunately the Finder doesn't support automatic connection to WebDAV clients.

As an alternative you could try the free application Cyberduck (www.cyberduck.ch). Cyberduck supports WebDAV bonjour so will auto-discover the Files server making connection much easier (no URL to remember). Cyberduck is also a much more efficient WebDAV client than the Finder - we use it ourselves.
